NBS Bank Plc has committed the K10 Million to support five small, highly influential projects carried out by domestic corps Africa volunteers.
Ernest Tembo, the bank’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), announced his commitment on Thursday at this year’s Legion Africa Pitch Day, hosted by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Lilongwe.
As a “compassionate bank,” NBS evaluates the various projects volunteers advocate in the country to benefit Malawians in a variety of ways.
“We listen to presentations of every project in our community, and all of them have a big impact on our community. Our theme this year is to “we care a little more” and work with people, projects, individuals or institutions that have a big impact on the lives of our communities.
Deputy Gender Minister Halima Dawdi and Corps Africa Malawi Chairman Martha Kwatine praised NBS Bank and volunteers for observing the need for rural people.
In his remarks, Morocco’s ambassador Malawi Abdelkadar Naj said he was impressed with the ability to secure funds for volunteers from NBS Bank through pitch day.
“Together with our partners, we raised something to embark on their projects that volunteers would benefit Malawians,” he said.
On the pitch day, five young Malawian volunteers, namely Koarembanda, Devrinsapwa, Harie Bunbuwe, Im Ranchposhiyo and Chikondichsar, presented their project ideas at Mangochi, Muchinji, Chikwawa, Nsanji and Lironwe, respectively.
Volunteers were recruited and trained by African legions and equipped to attract local people in the Malawian community and promote small and shocking projects.
