Christopher Bonds-Bar has won the Maiden appeal to the Ghana national team as manager Otto Ad, who was selected to the 23-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad and Madagascar.
The talented 20-year-old winger, playing for Belgian Side Jenk, has been rewarded with impressive performances in Europe and has the opportunity to show off his skills on the international stage.
Adding even more strength to the Black Star is the return of Arsenal midfielder Thomas Party, who has not fulfilled his national obligations due to injury.
The final appearance of the Ghanaian part came a year ago, and his comeback greatly boosts Aji’s midfield options.
His experience is important as the international caps of over 50 aim to solidify Ghana’s position in Group I.
Otto Addo mixes experiences with fresh talent
Partey’s Return Return found the team’s announcement, but Addo holds several key names, including Kamaldeen Sulemana, who returned to the team after recovering from an injury.
Southampton’s winger’s pace and dribbling ability will become an asset to Ghana’s attack.
Also, CD Lugo’s Jerry Afrie, who was impressed by his match against Niger last year, is back.
His inclusion further strengthens Ghana’s attack options. This will be key to their bids to ensure successive victories in this international window.
Three home-based players are also named by the team: Benjamin Asare (Heart of Oak), Kamaladini Mamdu (Medema SC) and Razak Simpson (National FC).
The path to Ghana qualification continues
The Black Star is currently second in Group I, with nine points in four matches and leader Comoros and level.
Ghana launched their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Madagascar before breaking the set against the Comoros.
However, they bounced back in June 2024 with victory over Mali and the Central African Republic, keeping their World Cup dreams alive.
Only group winners who have secured automatic qualifications for the 2026 World Cup will be extremely important for future matches.
Ghana will host Chad at Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21st, then travel to Morocco to face Madagascar on Monday, March 24th.
Otto Addo’s Squad will meet for four days of training on March 17th before their first match.
