Major Sudan and international voices briefly explain the press on the urgent need for greater African involvement to resolve Sudan’s catastrophic conflict approaching its second anniversary on April 15th.
The virtual media briefing will be attended by foreign ministers from Sudan’s neighbours and major African countries ahead of the important London Ministerial Conference on Sudan.
“While multiple mediation efforts have emerged, led by the Gulf, Emirati and Western governments, the Sudan crisis is fundamentally an issue of Africa that requires sustained involvement from African leaders,” a statement from the organizers read.
The well-known panel includes Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the best representative of the African Union, silences the guns of the AU’s high-level panels in Sudan, and includes the chairman. Harra al-Caribbean, Regional Director of Strategic Initiatives for Women in the Horn of Africa. Kholood Khair, founder and director of Confluence Advisory. and Bayadir Mohamed Osman, a Sudanese-American activist and public health expert. The representatives of Sudan will also be taking part.
Briefing provides important updates from the ground and examines the devastating effects of war on women and children. Panelists will deal with the international community’s failures in dealing with the crisis and leverage the influence of African leaders with political parties and external actors that promote conflict.
Since the eruption on April 15, 2023, the Sudan War has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The brief is expected to underscore the importance of engaging African public opinion through both traditional behaviour and social media channels.
The virtual briefing will take place on Thursday, April 10th at 11:30am (1:30pm, 2:30pm).
