According to the BBC, Mike Peters, the lead singer of rock band The Alarm, has passed away.
It is not immediately clear when and how Peters died…though it is worth noting that the Welsh locker fought cancer over the 30 years leading up to his death.
Peters was best known for co-founding Alarms, but the group’s first punk rock iteration was called Toilet and began performing in 1977.
A few years later, after some names were changed, the band settled on an alarm for their name and performed together from 1981 to 1991.
During this time they released hit songs such as “Sixty Eigh guns,” “Spirit of ’76,” “Sold Me Down The River,” and many more tracks.
Peters left the group in 1991 and embarked on a solo career…but he later put together another band using the name Alarm MM++.
Peters’ battle with cancer began in 1995 when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma… and he was later diagnosed twice with lymphocytic leukemia.
Although he was in remission, BBC News reports that Peters’ Lifter syndrome (an aggressive form of lymphoma) has returned this year. It is unknown if this is the cause of his death at this point.
Peters co-founded the charity Love Hope Strength Foundation to help people fight cancer like themselves… Love Hope Strength used live music shows to recruit bone marrow donors.
We contacted the charity for comments… so far, there are no words.
