Nemanja Matic fought back against Andreonana’s bold claims about Lyon by calling him “one of the worst goalkeepers” in Manchester United history.
Onana boldly claimed United, who is 13th in the Premier League, is “a lot better” than Lyon ahead of the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinals in France on Thursday.
Matic, a Lyon midfielder who spent five years at Old Trafford, was asked about Onana’s words at a pre-match press conference on Wednesday, and his response was reduced.
“If you’re one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United history, you need to take care of what you’re talking about,” Matic said.
“If David de Gere, Peter Schmeichel, or Edwin van der Sall said I doubt myself, if you are statistically one of the worst goalkeepers of Manchester United’s modern history, he needs to show it before he says that.”

Onana felt confident when she spoke to the press after maintaining her ninth Premier League clean sheet of the season in Sunday’s monotonous derby draw against Manchester City.
Asked about Lyon before Game 1 of Thursday’s quarterfinals, he said, “It’s a very good team. We know some of them, but I don’t think we need to focus on them. That’s about us.
“I think we’re better than them. We have to go there and show who we are. If we go there with a victory mentality and we’re focused, we’re staying together in compact and we’re winning the game according to the game plan, we win the game.
“Of course, that’s not easy, but I think we’re way better than them. We all know the importance of this game. We’ll go there with a winning mentality.
