The latest US strike will bring Yemen’s death toll to more than 220 from mid-March.
The US military strike against Yemen’s capital Sanaa has killed at least eight people and injured several others, and has admitted that the US has been conducting more than 800 attacks on Yemen’s targets since mid-March, bringing a total of more than 220 people.
The Al Masirah TV Satellite News Channel reported eight people had been killed early Monday in a US strike targeting the Bani Al-Harith district, north of Yemen’s capital Sanaa.
The US also attacked Yemeni governors Amran and Sada on Sunday night, Hooty officials said, and it was reported that the two were killed in previous attacks on Sanaa.
“Eight martialists, including children and women,” reported following the attack targeting the Takban area of Bani Al Harris.
Later reports by the station alleged that dozens of people were reportedly killed in the US bombing that raided detention centers.
According to a tally in Houthi’s announcement about the casualties, the latest US bombing raid has raised the US death toll on Yemen to 228.
US forces said on Sunday that since March 15, they have struck over 800 targets in Yemen and killed hundreds of rebel fighters.
“These strikes killed hundreds of Hooty fighters and numerous Hooty leaders,” the US military central headquarters (CENTCOM), responsible for military operations in the Middle East, said in a statement. Centcom also said that the attacks on Yemen continue and details of the US strike will not be revealed to the public.
“We intentionally limit disclosure of details of ongoing or future operations to maintain operational security,” Centcom said.
“We are very cautious in our operational approach, but we won’t give any details about what we did or what we will do,” he added.
The US has not commented on civilian casualties from the heavy bombings in Yemen, which began on March 15th and has been involved in almost daily attacks.
The US military says they are targeting Houthis due to the group’s attacks on transport in the Red Sea. Houthis says it launched an attack on Israel-linked Red Sea transport in retaliation for Israel’s war with Gaza.
On April 18, a US strike against Yemen’s Ras Isa Fuel Port killed at least 74 people and injured 171 people in a previously deadly attack on Yemen.
The rise in US attacks comes as President Donald Trump is increasing efforts to pressure Iran (the main supporter of the Houtis) to agree to a new deal on nuclear capabilities.
The US is on strike from two airlines in the region, Truman of USS Harry in the Red Sea and USS Carl Vinson in the Arabian Sea.
Nevertheless, the Houthi army continues to launch missiles on Israeli and US ships in the Red Sea, and is also a US drone.
