With Newton Abbott and Wolverhampton running live at Sky Sports Racing, there will be competitive action on both codes on Saturday afternoons…
4.19 Newton Abbott – Headlines for Heltenham and Scarface in the Feature
Dan Skeleton is in a great battle for the trainer championship, and Heltenham wants to win the much-needed prize money in Newton Abbott’s Plymouth Motor Company Handicap Chase.
The five-time fence winner has struggled with his form this season, but thanks for the decline in this class, he is now two pounds below his final victory mark.
Scarface ran another solid race when he came in second at Newbury and is in that shape at Cheltenham this week, so he must be feared under Brendan Powell.
Royal Jewels are on track to the fence and the rest looks great.
5.55 Wolverhampton – Red Sand and Jolly Roger Contest Strong Beginner
Edwalker’s Red Sand builds on his promising debut when landing the Goodwood Maiden in May, making his long-awaited reenactment with race and rest – Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Novice Stakes, Tom Marquand booking a notable jockey.
Jolly Roger is another who stepped forward from his first start to score an impressive score at Kempton in December. It’s a good performance from a wide range of draws and he’s rated a big player here.
Warrior Mode, despite showing signs of green, justifies market support to make its winning debut last month on course and distance, and cannot be ruled out for Mark Prescott and Luke Morris.
2.34 Newton Abbott – Inform Military Big Prix and Outer Adesa Clash
The military tycoon went over the hurdle and scored the mark when he saw Ivan at Fontwell last month, and another bold bid is expected from the 7 pound high mark on the limited handicap hurdle for tribute beginners.
Outside, Adesa scored points for Charlton Hollethorn in the final start and rated an interesting runner in the Kayley Wolcott team’s debut.
El Bandido Pancho was the second beat-favorite in FFOS LAS, but with similar efforts you’ll see him approach as he steps into the distance.
Best remaining
3.09 Newton Abbott
Time to bite the bid to continue his fantastic run, winning two wins in bounces and Exeter, and he tries to win a Trojan Motor Company’s southwest victory and Instant Justice’s handicap chase at Newton Abbott.
He scored on course and distance a year ago, but if he lands three-person timers, he will have to ignore the 3-pound high mark.
5.29 Newton Abbott – Coconut Twist Wants a Hat Trick
Coconut twists have only one of the first three in the last eight starts, winning the final two, and recently slipped past an informed mare who landed his hat-trick on this course and distance.
He arrives from a career-high mark, but if he can deal with the nine-day turnaround, he couldn’t eliminate another bold show from this progressive type.
Randwick – Group One Action
There was Group 1 action from Randwick on Saturday morning, with all the elderly stakes from Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes and Schweppes winning center stage.
The Champagne Stakes were captured last year by Top Godolphin Colt Broadding, and this year there are some potential superstars.
I have been running a wide range of cards for the second year in a row and bid to follow up at 6:40am after the recent success of Rose Hill Guinea.
