Denis Arndt – the veteran actor best known for interrogating Sharon Stone in the most iconic “basic instinct” scene – has died…according to reports.
The actor passed away this week at his home in Ashland, Oregon. His family announced in an obituary posted online.
His death was reportedly unexpected… News from local Ashland points out that he suffered a stroke in 2019, as he had fully recovered. The cause of death has not been revealed.
Arndt won his first role in “The Magical World of Disney” shortly after he finished his service in the Vietnam War in 1974. He has appeared in numerous stage plays in the Pacific Northwest… and has completed more than 12 seasons at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland.
Many recognize Arndt about his role as Li during Phil Walker in “basic instincts”… one of the two policemen interrogate Stone’s Catherine Tramell when she crosses her legs – revealing that she is not wearing her underwear.
Arndt also played roles in “Columbo”, “Swat”, “Indisputable”, “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid”, “Dolphin Tale 2” and “Metro”.
Arndt’s final major role took place on Broadway…where he starred in “Heisenberg” alongside Mary Luis Parker. He was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor for the play in his work, but lost to Kevin Klein for his role in “Current Laugh.”
Arndt was 86.
