Ricky Whittle says the British version of “Saturday Night Live” will be even more difficult after American politics than the US shows… he doesn’t know if humor will translate.
We caught up with the British actor best known in America for his role in the fantasy series “American God” at LAX on Thursday…and asked him about the news of “SNL” expanding in the UK version of the show in 2026.
Whittle says he thinks the show will be a huge hit in the UK… Although he admits that the humor may not be translated into America, “the self-deprecating British style and offensive jokes about the current state of American politics may drive viewers away.
Ricky says he feels the world is a bit more sensitive…but as long as Americans can understand that country’s leadership is the butt of many jokes in the international community today, they will enjoy the humor too.
Whittle says he feels that distance from the US gives them a license to kill the UK’s “SNL”… Even OG’SNL might be afraid of it, with an unbanned joke about the US.
Ricky also throws away the name of the comedian he wants to see on “SNL UK”… Watch the clip to the end and ask who he has in mind.
We’ll have to wait a while for the show’s host to be announced…but it sounds like Ricky is down to throw his hat into the ring!
