The 28-year-old security guard has signed a two-year maximum contract extension with the Phoenix Suns, sources told ESPN on Wednesday. This gave him the largest average salary in NBA history ($72.5 million), surpassing the four-year, $285 million deal (average average annual average of $71.25 a year) signed last week by Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Booker became the Suns’ greatest leader ever with points scored in the 2024-25 season. He has spent all 10 NBA seasons in the franchise since being selected in the 2015 NBA Draft. Booker averaged 25.6 points last season, earning at least 20 points per game in his ninth straight campaign.

Oklahoma City Thunder, Shy Gilgauss Alexander: 4 years, $285 million
Signature year: 2025

Jason Tatum, Boston Celtics: 5 years, $314 million
Signature year: 2024
According to ESPN research, Tatum, the first player to win $70 million in a season, has earned 2,711 career playoff points for players under the age of 26 in NBA history. He averaged 25 points per game during the 2024 Celtics championship run.
Jalen Brown, Boston Celtics: 5 years, $304 million
Signature year: 2023
Brown averaged 22.2 points per game last season, and his sixth campaign earned at least 20 points per game.
Nicola Jokic, Denver Nugget: 5 years, $272 million
Signature year: 2022
Jokic signed the largest expansion with the Nuggets in 2022. This was the biggest deal in NBA history, up until Brown’s deal.
Bradley Beale, Washington Wizards: 5 years, $251 million
Signature year: 2022
After rejecting the option to become a free agent in 2022, Beale signed a maximum contract to stay at the Wizard for the next five seasons. However, as he was dealt with the Phoenix Suns in 2023, his time in Washington under extension proved to be short-lived.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks: 5 years, $228.2 million
Signature year: 2021
At the time, this was the biggest deal in NBA history, but it was worth it for the Bucks. Antetokounmpo led them to the title and was selected as the Finals MVP from 2020-21. He has been better since then, averaging over 30 points per game for the first time in his career.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills: 6 years, $330 million (75.76% of total contract)
Signature year: 2025
Allen won his first NFL MVP award in 2024-25, leading Buffalo on a 13-4 regular season mark and a trip to the AFC Championship Game. His New Deal guarantees $250 million, the most guaranteed money in NFL history.
Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys: 4 years, $240 million (96.25% of total contracts)
Signature year: 2024
Prescott had the second-best year of his NFL career in 2023, throwing for 4,516 yards with a career-high completion rate of 69.5. His deal comes with a $231 million bond.
Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers: 4 years, $220 million (77.5% of total contracts)
Signature year: 2024
Love appeared in his best year in the NFL in 2023, threw 32 touchdown passes in his first year as a starter, leading the Packers to a 9-8 record. His new deal includes $155 million in the new guarantee.
Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars: 5 years, $275 million (72.7% of total contracts)
Signature year: 2024
Lawrence led the Jaguars to an 8-8 record in the 2023 season, throwing for his second career to date, 21 touchdowns. His contract is guaranteed $200 million.
Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals: 5 years, $275 million (79.6% of contract)
Signature year: 2023
Barrow led Bengal to a 12-4 record in 2022-23. He threw 35 touchdowns and went with 12 interceptions, passing 4,475 yards and completed 68.3% of passes along the way. His contract is guaranteed $219 million.
Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers: 5 years, $262.5 million (83.3% of contract)
Signature year: 2023
Herbert was selected for the sixth overall pick in 2020, leading the charger to his first playoff appearance in four years in the 2022 season.

His 14,089 passing yards and 1,316 career paths were the most common throughout the quarterback’s first three NFL seasons. He was scheduled to play for $4.23 million in his fourth year on his rookie contract. Instead, his average yearly sal jumped to a maximum of $52.5 million, the highest in NFL history at the time.
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens: 5 years, $260 million (71.1% of total contracts)
Signature year: 2023
Jackson was his second unanimous choice as NFL MVP in his first full season. He represented himself in contract negotiations and lasted for 27 months.

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles: 5 years, $255 million (70.3% of total contracts)
Signature year: 2023
Harts led the Eagles to the Super Bowl LVII Bertz and Super Bowl LIX victory, threw for 3,701 yards for 22 touchdowns and rushed for 760 yards and 13 scores.
He was lined up to play the final year of his rookie contract, including a base salary of $4.2 million. His extension, including the first trade clause in franchise history, will amount to around $51 million a year.

Dehaun Watson, Cleveland Browns: 5 years, $230 million (100% of total contracts)
Signature year: 2022
Watson’s contract is one of the biggest deals in NFL history, but his tenure with the Browns has been hampered by an 11-game suspension for committing sexual assault and violating the NFL’s personal policies of conduct, as defined by the league. He threw seven touchdowns against five interceptions in six starts in 2022.

Juan Soto, New York Mets: 15 years, $765 million
One of the more exaggerated free agents of this century, Soto’s market has reached heights that have never been seen before in professional sports. His 15-year contract marks the most year in MLB history, surpassing the 14-year contract for Fernando Tatis Jr., signed with the San Diego Padres in 2021. Soto had a season where he hit a career-high 41 home runs alongside the New York Yankees and the 109 RBI.
Los Angeles Dodgers, shoes hei ohtani: 10 years, $700 million
Signature year: 2023
Otani’s market entered free agents, ranging from $500 million to $600 million. The Dodgers hit it from the park with an offer to undoubtedly the best player in baseball.
Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels: 12 years old, $426.5 million
Signature year: 2019
Trout has been or near the best player in baseball for most of the decade, and the Angels rewarded him accordingly. When he signed this contract it was the richest contract in professional American sports.
Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers: 12 years, $365 million
Signature year: 2021
The Dodgers secured bets until the 2030s shortly after winning him in trade from the Boston Red Sox. He has since won three top-5 MVP finishes and two World Series wins.
Judge Aaron, New York Yankees: 9 years, $360 million
Signature year: 2022
The Yankees have ensured that the 6-foot-7 MVP slugger will stay on pinstripe after mashing an American League record 62 Homer when he hit .311/.425/.686 with the AL-leading 131 RBI in 2022.
Francisco Lindor, New York Mets: 10 years, $341 million
Signature year: 2021
The Mets signed Lindor to the monster’s contract before the opening of 2021, and although they performed disappointingly that season, they rebounded well in 2022 as the team won 101 games. Lindor hit a home run in the postseason, but the Mets fell to the Padres 2-1 in the National League Wildcard Series.
Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego Padres: 2014, $340 million
Signature year: 2021
Tatis had a big season after hitting 42 league-leading home runs after signing the contract and winning 6.6 wars in 2021.
NHL

Leon Draysitel, Edmonton Oilers: 8 years, $112 million
Signature year: 2024
The Oilers, fresh from the appearance of the Stanley Cup final, maintained a star center in Edmonton. Draisaitl tallied 106 points from 2023 to 2024. This is the fifth campaign in six years to surpass the Century Mark. It was the 2020-21 campaign pandemic that Draysightle’s one season of stretching that didn’t accumulate more than 100 points.
Nashville Predators, Shea Weber: 2014, $110 million
Signature year: 2012
This is a bit of a strange situation – Weber has been suffering from injuries for five years left on his prominent career and his long contract, and hasn’t played since the 2020-21 season. It’s very likely he won’t play in the NHL again.
Sydney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguin: 12 years, $104.4 million
Signature year: 2013
Sid The Kid won’t become a free agent until his 38-year-old season, but he still produces for the Penguin. He finished 2022-23 in 10th place in the league and finished 16th place.
Conor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers: 8 years, $100 million
Signature year: 2018
McDavid has yet to lead the Oilers to a Stanley Cup victory due to the lack of the Florida Panthers in 2024 and 2025. However, he is one of two players who won the Heart Memorial Trophy unanimously in 2021. Wayne Gretzky.
