Eight passengers were injured in a Ryanair flight detoured to an airport in southern Germany after experiencing “severe turbulence” due to bad weather, police said.
Among those injured Wednesday night was a two-year-old woman who suffered from a bruise and a woman who suffered head injuries, according to Bayern police.
Three were taken to a local hospital for treatment, while others were treated on site, they said.
Ryanair apologized to the affected passengers. The captain of the flight originally planned to go from Berlin to Milan – said he was called earlier for a plane that “normally landed” at Memmingen Airport, west of Munich.
Local police said that the plane decoupled to Memmingen because weather conditions made it impossible for them to land at Munich airport, where it landed “safe and no further incidents” at 20:44 local time (18:44 GMT).
They were not approved to advance by Southern Bavarian Airlines Authority on Wednesday evening, they said.
Ryanair said he organized a “alternative transport” to Milan that night and a flight to replace it on Thursday morning.
“I would like to sincerely apologize to the passengers affected by this diversion,” he said.
Police said 179 passengers and six crew members were on board.
The age of the injured person ranged from 2-59 and as a precaution, they said, all passengers were checked for injuries.
