Vice President Teodoro Nuguema Obian Mangu confirmed in X that the US proposed deporting African immigrants, even though it failed to reach a final agreement.
In exchange for accepting deported African immigrants from the US, Mang said he asked President Donald Trump’s administration to cover housing and living expenses for deported African immigrants and invest in local programs that help them reintegrate.
Many Equatorial Guineans have expressed concern about the proposal, fearing that immigrants will become criminals. However, Mangue ensures that only those with no criminal history are accepted. There are concerns that Equatorial Guinea may not accept the deportation of US citizens due to the harsh treatment of sub-Saharan African immigrants, including arbitrary arrests and expulsions.
This is when the US is asking people to take on it and embrace its citizens to fulfill the promises of Trump’s campaign to expel massive deportation of undocumented immigrants.
Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Ndunnglege recently said the country is in the early stages of discussion with the Trump administration to accept immigrants who have been deported from the United States. Kigali had previously agreed to a similar agreement with the UK in 2022, but the plan came into effect after the government changed in London.
