Addis Ababa – Ethiopia and Algeria have signed a series of broad understandings (Mous) aimed at strengthening years of diplomatic relations and unleashing new paths of economic cooperation.
The two countries marked important milestones in bilateral relations as they reaffirmed their commitment to transforming their strong political partnership into a dynamic and mutually beneficial economic alliance.
Mous covers a wide range of fields including trade and investment, science and technology, agriculture, energy and mining, health and medicine, academia, space science, culture and sports.
The agreement was formalized at the 5th Ethio-Algeria Joint Committee Meeting in Addis Ababa, with Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Gedion Timothewos, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmedatav, and other high-level officials and diplomats from both countries.
The leading Ethiopian ministers Gilma Emente, Berete Mora, Mekdes Daba and Shiwit Shanka were responsible for agriculture, innovation, technology, health, culture and sports.
At the end of the two-day session, Foreign Minister Gedion emphasized the importance of building on a strong political foundation to produce meaningful economic outcomes.
Despite our exemplary political cooperation, our economic ties remain underdeveloped, he said. It is ripe for strengthening efforts in areas such as trade, investment, education and tourism. We must translate strong political will into tangible economic progress.
Minister Ataf reiterated this sentiment on his part, highlighting Algeria’s commitment to strengthen both bilateral and multilateral relations.
He highlighted the strategic importance of legal frameworks, business engagement and consistent high levels of exchange in achieving shared goals.
The joint session ended with a positive note, laying the foundation for stronger and diverse partnerships between the two countries and signaling a new chapter in Ethio-Algeria relations.
