Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minister of Home Affairs, on Tuesday, on Friday, March 7, 2025, shed light on the attempted arrest of Akwatia’s new Patriotic Party (NPP) Member (NPP) Member (NPP).
According to Alhaji Muntaka, the arrest was intended to enforce a bench warrant issued by the High Court for light emptying.
The warrant dated February 19, 2025 was provided through the National Security Coordinator at the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) of the Eastern Regional Office.
The Minister of Home Affairs explained when he answered an urgent question by Alexander Kwamena Afeño Malkin, NPP MP for Evchu, Capitol in Accra.
Afeño Malkin, who is also a leader of the minority, asked about the circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest of Akwatia MPs in three official pick-up vehicles in Akwatia on Friday, March 7, 2025.
As a result, the Home Minister said that attempted arrest was merely an effort to carry out the orders of the High Court.
“On February 19th, Speaker, Koforidua High Court, issued a bench warrant arresting the arrest of Ernest Yo Kumi, a member of the Akwatia Constituency Council.
“The warrant was provided through the National Security Coordinator at the Eastern Regional Office of the Nib. Therefore, the circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest of members of Congress by NIB officers was to be made by the High Court order pursuant to the warrant dated February 19, 2025,” he said in the House.
The attempted arrest encountered resistance from supporters of the NPP in Akwatia in the eastern region.
