Some residents of Sagnarig in the city of Tamale in the northern region have greatly reduced and welcomed the successful dar construction of the community’s only dam, an important source of water.
The project, described by residents as “lifesaving” is the result of a joint effort involving traditional authorities, council members, and the Sagnig City Council.
When the Ghanaian period visited the area on Friday, some members of the community, including school children, elders and local leaders, gathered to witness the moment.
Speaking during Ghanaian times, community elder Alhaji Isahak Mahama recounted the challenges he faced over the years, saying, “We’ve been struggling for a long time. Our children are often late to school because they need to remove water from far away sources.

In an interview, Mariam Fuseini, a mother of three, said she woke up before dawn just to find water, and sometimes walked with her children for more than an hour.
“It was exhausting and dangerous, but now we can spend more time with our family and our kids don’t have to miss school because of the dam.
The ed dam is expected to improve water access, both for household and for agriculture, especially during the dry season.
Community members expressed optimism that interventions will contribute to improving health, education and livelihoods.
Teacher Issah Mohammed said students would no longer miss school or arrive late for water-related chores, saying water from the dam would have a major impact on performance and happiness.
He praised traditional authorities for an effective partnership between the MP and the district council, which emphasized the importance of community-driven development.
