Emile Soleil’s grandparents were released for free two days after being arrested for the loss and death of a infant in the French Alps in July 2023.
Philip Vedvini and his wife, Anne, were among the four people who were detained earlier this week on suspicion of murder and cover-up of the body.
The other two, the adult children of both couples, were also released on Thursday morning without being charged, confirmed prosecutor Jean Luc Bracon.
Bracon also revealed for the first time that investigators believe Emile’s clothes and body were taken to the forest, where she was found just before its discovery last spring.
Blachon added that the analysis of the infant’s skull showed signs of “violent facial trauma,” which makes it more likely that a third party was involved in Emile’s loss and death.
Until Thursday, one of the investigators’ working theories was that Emile wandered herself and might have died as a result of a fall.
The four people detained Tuesday were released after answering all questions from investigators, Bracon said, but he added that the investigation line, centered on Emile’s family, has not yet been completely closed.
“We are continuing to resolve to shed light on the situation around Emile’s death,” Bracon said.
Under French law, people can be arrested for questioning for a certain amount of time until the police decide whether they may be involved in the crime.
Julian Pinelli, the lawyer for Emile’s grandmother, said Mrs. Vedvini was on rest now. “I was nervous and tried for 48 hours,” he said.
“In this type of research, it is customary to try to rule out some things. Family members. [angle] It was one of the lines of investigations, and that encouraged custody, and I hope it’s on the side now. ”
Emile’s last sighting was on July 8, 2023. I saw him walking on the only street of Hart Vernet in the small alpine mountain where he was staying at his grandparents’ holiday home.
Emile, who was two and a half years old at the time, quickly disappeared without any traces. Hundreds of people joined the police, sniffer dogs and troops on the search the following day, but the toddler appeared to have disappeared into the thin air.
Until March 2024, Emile’s body was found to be just 1 km from the village from the hikers.
The loss and death of a infant shocked France. In France, the incident continues to make headlines.
