A missile launched from Yemen landed near the main terminal at Israeli Ben Gurion airport on Sunday morning, Israeli officials said.
Unverified footage posted online appeared to appear to have seen drivers covered as shooting land on nearby roads, creating a black smoke plume near an airport on the outskirts of Tel Aviv.
Israeli media reported that four people were injured in the explosion and two more were injured on their way to shelter, citing emergency services.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement:
In a TV statement, Yahya Saree, a spokesman for the Houthi military, said Israel airports are “no longer safe for air travel.”
The airport was temporarily suspended and then resumed for flights.
As the missile approaches, the sirens are being revitalized in several parts of the country, and the Israeli Air Force has been investigating that they did not intercept it.
Video shared by local media showed a large crater on the ground of the impact site.
The Houtis, a Yemen-based Iran-backed rebel group, has launched missile attacks in Israel in solidarity with Hamas in Gaza, but it is rare to do so through Israeli air defense.
The group has also carried out attacks on ships in the Red Sea. This has been handled by the US by leading the bombing campaign that the UK has supported.
