The Golden Ace, who used the previous Victor’s Constitutional Hill and the Man’s Waterfalls in the State, had originally no plans to go to the Champion’s Hurdle.
“We were waiting to see if Rosmus would go to the mares and champion hurdles,” he explained.
“She was clearly a very talented horse, so we were leaning towards the mares at the level of competition in the champion hurdle.
“Owner Ian Gosden decided to go to the championship hurdle as there’s a good prize if we finish in the location, so of course me and Jeremy. [Scott, trainer] I was happy to be on board. ”
The Golden Ace started out as a 25-1 outsider, with Constitutional Hill leading the market.
“The early stages of the race where I was so happy. When I got home, I thought she was running a cracker. Even the last time the state guy came down, I didn’t think it was over.
“When I crossed the line, I couldn’t believe it. I was hoping that both the horse and the fallen jockey were fine. That was just incredible.”
The Golden Ace victory won the team’s £255,000 award. Meanwhile, Lossiemouth secured her third victory at the festival over victory to maintain her mares’ hurdles.
Golden Ace trainer Jeremy Scott shows the seven-year-old heading to the Panchetown Festival.
“I’m spinning for that. It’s going to be a great potential rematch with the Man in the Constitutional Hill and the State. I haven’t been in Panchestown since I was 17, so I can’t wait to get back,” he added.
