Lebanese media reported that the released hostages have arrived at a hospital in Tire, Lebanon.
Lebanon says it has received four hostages that Israel took to Israel during its war with Hezbollah, as it said it agreed to hold talks to distinguish between its borders with Lebanon.
Lebanese President Joseph Aung confirmed in a statement Tuesday that he had received four prisoners, and was expected to be handed over the next day.
Lebanese media, including the NNA of the provincial news agency, reported that released Lebanese prisoners had arrived at a hospital in Tire in southern Lebanon.
The extradition occurred when Israel agreed to hold talks on Tuesday to distinguish between the border with Lebanon and agreed to explain that five Lebanese held by Israeli forces would be released as a “gesture to the President of Lebanese.”
A statement in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office on Tuesday said Israel agreed to Lebanon, the US and France and established a working group to discuss the boundaries between the two countries.
The US Deputy Envoy for Middle East Morgan Ortags said Lebanese television channel Al Jade wanted Washington to “finally have a political settlement to the border dispute.”
She said the US and France, which helped mediate the November ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, have set up “working groups” to keep the process on track.
The working group dealt with the border dispute between the two countries, and Israel has continued to occupy five strategic points in South Lebanon, Ortagus said.
“Unresolved Points”
The ceasefire agreement concluded a year-long conflict between Israeli forces and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, which took place in parallel with the war with Gaza.
Under the agreement, Hezbollah demanded that the country be withdrawn north of the Ritani River, about 20 miles (30 km) from the border and dismantled military infrastructure in the south.
Israel was to completely withdraw from Lebanon’s territory by February 18 after missing the January deadline, but maintains its troops in five locations considered strategic.
“There are still many issues here,” said Hamdasarf of Al Jazeera. “The main highlight is that Israeli forces are still in five different locations in southern Lebanon.
“[These are] Areas where they are to leave, areas where they will retreat from when the evacuation and ceasefire contract is introduced, she reported from Amman, Jordan.
