Jamie Birdie will leave Leicester City, already associated with him this summer 13 years after the club, but he has no plans to retire from football.
Vardy scored 24 goals in the season that won the 2015/16 Premier League title under Claudio Ranieri, and after lifting the FA Cup in 2021 with Brendan Rodgers in charge of the Brendan Rodgers, he set out as the club’s greatest player of all time.
The 38-year-old said he was “dedicated to his full power” to leave a farewell message to Leicester fans.
“I have had 13 years of incredible success with this club, but some downs are the majority, everything is the best, but it’s finally time to call it a day.
“I would like to thank you for taking me as one of your own. Leicester has always had a big place in my heart. I hope I will follow you for the next few years and be more successful for the club.
His exit announcement comes days after the striker apologised to supporters for “complete embarrassment” of the season when the fox was relegated to the championship.

A statement from LCFC.com said: “We can confirm that legendary striker Jamie Vardy will leave Leicester City this summer after 13 seasons when he became our all-time best player.”
The 38-year-old has made 496 appearances since joining Leicester from Fleetwoodtown in 2012, and has been a key figure in Leicester’s most successful era in the club’s history, following his promotion to the Premier League in 2014.
Look at his best goal choice in the Premier League to celebrate Jamie Birdy signing a new deal at Leicester City.
Vardy’s legacy at Leicester has grown beyond silverware, and has been a major escape under Nigel Pearson in 2015, reaching the Champions League quarterfinals under the late Craig Shakespeare, and considers it his most notable achievement.
He also scored 18 goals as Fox was selected as the winner of last season’s championship, but he only managed seven in the Premier League this season.
Leicester’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday confirmed an immediate return to the second tier. That is, he has been kicked out of the Premier League in two of his last three seasons.
Leicester Chairman Aiyawat Sribaddhanapraba said: “Jamie is unique, he is a special player and even more special.
“He has a place in the hearts of all those connected to Leicester City. He certainly has my deep respect and love. I am endlessly grateful for everything he has given to this football club.”
Leicester manager Rude van Nistellouis says he had a “special” conversation with Jamie Vardy to signal his intention to leave the club 13 years later.
“Vardy represents loyalty and longevity.”
Sky Sports ‘Adambait:
Currently, there are great players in British football, but how many can you claim to be the greatest in the club’s history? Jamie Vardy was a symbol of Leicester’s title victory in 2016, scoring 24 Premier League goals, but he represented more.
N’Golo Kante was outstanding, but he was not part of a team promoted from the championship. Riyad Mahrez had, but by 2018 he had gone too. Not only did Vardy stay, he was part of the team that won the Golden Boots in 2020 and won the FA Cup in 2021.
It appeared Vardy continued to score 18 goals in lifting up the club from last year’s championship. What began as a Cinderella story also became a tale of loyalty and longevity, leading the line of 38-year-old Leicester, still tumbling his enemies.
Over the years, he has WWATCHed some of Vardy’s greatest ever winding celebrities in the Premier League.
These hostile celebrations have exacerbated supporters of other clubs, and there have also been some unpleasant moments off the pitch. However, there was a reason for Vardy’s popularity. Why he was cheered in England at the Euro 2016 and 2018 World Cups.
His story resonated as Vardy brought raw enthusiasm to a pitch that is rarely seen at the Premier League level. He was still playing at age 23, as if he came directly from Stocksbridge Park Steel, a Northern Premier League team.
That extraordinary pace, those finishes fired low on the corners, and the sin he added to his game marked him as something special. Only Mohamed Sarah and Harry Kane have scored more Premier League goals than Vardy in the past decade.
Is the season too far? perhaps. However, Vardy has escaped much of the criticism of Leicester’s light letter this season. You’d be happy to see him continue with joy, believing he could still deliver in the second tier. The points are just mentioned. He leaves as a legend. And only once.
“Leicester’s greatest player ever”
Rob Dorset from Sky Sports News:
Leicester great Jamie Vardy only plays five more games with the club.
We knew his contract was going to expire at the end of the season. We know he has a great relationship with the owner and they personally talk about what he wants to do.
It is revealed to me that Leicester left this in Vardy’s hands. It’s Vardy’s decision that he doesn’t want to continue with the club anymore.
He feels that there are still points to prove and prove that the suspects are wrong, and he has no plans to retire from football as there is still plenty to offer in the Premier League.
Following the announcement that Jamie Birdie is leaving Leicester City, he looks back at the time he sits with Harriet Pryor for the Sky Sports sticker book challenge and reflects on incredible moments in his career.
Ends the glittering relationship between Vardy and Leicester, who saw him crown the Premier League champion in 2016. When I say he’s Leicester’s greatest player of all time, I don’t put that light.
In 13 years, it’s almost 500 games. We use the term “legend” a lot, but in Leicester and football terms he is legendary.
He has been a Leicester major goals scorer this season, and is relegated to the championship, taking part in 50% of his goals that had been a horrifying season for them.
I think his agent will now be talking to Premier League clubs to see if, even if he is not aging, Premier League strikers are very experienced and wanting to get off the bench and make an impact, but certainly add leadership qualities and inspiration.
I don’t think you can overestimate a man’s personality and how important he is in the dressing room. He is often considered a Joker, and he is extremely easygoing and laughs and jokes even at the most important moments.
However, he is a very leader and called this season “complete embarrassment” when it comes to Leicester’s performance.
Social on Saturday asked 100 Leicester City fans about captain Jamie Birdie, revealing what his secret is about his longevity.
I know this was a very difficult decision for him. He could sign a new contract at Leicester and there was discussion for that purpose, but Vardy revealed that it was time for them to descend to the championship and perhaps he would move on and Leicester to get off to a fresh start.
This is terrible news for Leicester fans. They had a terrible season to endure. They were demoted for the second time in three years, but now I hear that the best player of all time is on the pitch in five more games.
It was a major period of great change and flow in Leicester.
Van Nistelrooy’s future takes a seat with Vardy left
Peter Smith from Sky Sports News:
News Jamie Vardy is scheduled to leave Leicester this summer after dominating 13 years of Rood Van Nistelloi’s press conference. We’re discussing another great Premier League striker.
Van Nistellouis described a lengthy conversation with the club captain about Bardi’s incredible journey from the non-league to the top of the game. He also highlighted Vardy’s love for Leicester. This is a notable point in the week when Vardy denounced the club’s performance on the way to relegation this season.
Van Nistelroy’s own future is in the spotlight as a result of that terrible shape in the Premier League. He says he mapped his plan to get the club back on track and return it to the chairman and board. While he makes that situation clear, his focus is now on offering a positive finish to the season amidst the celebration of Vardy’s Leicester career.
