NAIROBI – Authorities identified the British citizen killed in a fatal road accident near Adams Arcade in Nairobi on Thursday as Edgar Charles Frederick, 79.
In an update on the fatal crash on Friday, National Police (NPS) spokesman Muchiri Nyaga said Frederick was hit by a government vehicle attached to the Nairobi Regional Coordinator’s office.
The driver of the vehicle arrested after the incident is expected to be released on cash bail and arrested in court.
“The government motorists connected to the Nairobi Regional Coordinator’s office are on cash bail awaiting arrest in court,” Nyaga said.
He further confirmed that Frederick’s next relative had been informed of the tragic accident.
His body is then moved to Lee Funeral Home, where post-mortem examinations are set up.
Nyaga also said police inspected the vehicles involved in the accident and took necessary procedural measures as the investigation continued.
The victim was attacked by a vehicle in President William Ruto’s vehicle along Ngong Road.
The accident occurred near Adams Arcade as the president’s fleet was traveling from Langata to Qibla as part of the president’s weekly development tour.
Witnesses said the victim was about to cross the road when he was hit by a speeding government vehicle.
The driver reportedly did not stop after the incident, causing a confused scene as bystanders tried to assist the victim.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but were declared dead.
