Nairobi – The government has banned the import of 11 Chinese tobacco brands due to violations in 2007 and tobacco control regulations in 2014.
Some brands include RGD Blue, Huangshan, Harmonization, Septwolves, Naijing, and Guiyang.
The Tobacco Control Act 2007 provides a legal framework for managing tobacco products, including production, sales, labeling, advertising, and sponsorship.
“On March 25, 2025, a multi-agency team including officers and officers of the Department of Health (MOH) of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (DCI) visited and inspected your facility,” Tobacco Control Committee Anthony Weinna wrote in a letter to KRA Chairman.
“Four brands: (Harmony, September, Naijing, Golden Leaf) were not found in the MOH database. A further evaluation revealed that all 11 brands are in violation of the Tobacco Control Act 2007 and Tobacco Control Rules 2014,” he added.
In 2024, the Ministry of Health approved the sale of Huanghelou Golden and Huanghelou 1916 filter cigarettes in 2007 after a review showing compliance with the Tobacco Control Act.
“The purpose of this letter is to inform you that any clearance letter issued to the company prior to prior approval of importing tobacco products will be withdrawn/cancelled and recalled immediately and effectively.”
