Elgeyo Marakwet – Government reforms in the agricultural sector are rewarding and profiting for commercial ships, President William Rutt said.
The president said the cut in prices of farm inputs, including fertilizer, allowed farmers to produce enough food for the country.
He said the elimination of cartels in the coffee and sugar sector also significantly increased production.
The president spoke at Capnetic Ground in Elgeyo Marakwet County during a sectarian prayer service, noting that high production of corn and sugar has resulted in a significant reduction in imports into the country.
“I would like to thank the farmers for their hard work. This allows them to produce 50% more food for their citizens than they did in 2022, making Kenya’s food safe,” President Root said.
However, he asked corn farmers to double their efforts to produce more by applying fertilizer adequately and efficiently.
“I’m sure if you apply 1.5 or 2 bags of fertilizer per acre, you’ll get 25 bags of acres of corn,” he explained.
In the coffee sector, the president focused on essential reforms on licensing, milling and purchasing, saying that these have eliminated cartels that irritated farmers’ efforts.
“We have made sure that individuals and companies don’t do it simultaneously to farmers, millers, brokers and buyers,” he said.
He pointed out that coffee farmers sell cherries between the KSH110 and KSH150 from the average KSH50 and KSH60 in 2022.
The president added that the payment delay, which was common in the past, ended with the coffee cooperative being paid five days after the coffee was sold.
As a result, President Root said that coffee society should pay farmers 10 days after the crops are sold, and noted that businesses must pay as soon as possible.
The president explained that reforms in Nairobi’s coffee exchange include giving capital market authorities a role in ensuring fairness.
With sugar, the president said that farmers and workers were quickly paid for the first time enjoying the bonus with the former.
“We just imported a small amount of sugar, and we will soon begin exporting sugar for better improvements.
At the same time, President Root said sweeping reforms have been introduced in the dairy sector.
“These reforms put dairy farmers, especially those at the heart of milk processing, a client of New KCC, and ultimately become factory managers,” President Ruto said.
He pointed out that it is unfair to farmers that packets of milk were sold at KSH120 and a liter of fresh milk was sold at KSH50.
Meanwhile, the president said it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that children are protected from those who want to drag them to immorality and hatred.
Similarly, the president said that questioning his activities would make them embarrassed by their actions.
“It’s embarrassing to those who claim that we have promised that Kenyans will not be achieved,” he said.
Regarding Universal Health Care, President Root urged Kenyans to ignore those spreading propaganda that the Social Health Department’s program is not working.

“I made the promise to change the National Hospital Insurance Fund to a better scheme. That’s what I’m doing. Sha works 10 times better than NHIF,” he said.
He praised the county government for accepting Sha, saying their claims were being processed continuously.
Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Maakomen urged parents, churches and leaders to promote the moral values of society.
He regretted that some parents had abandoned their role in leading their children to be morally upright.
“We all — parents, teachers, mentors — must be aware of the souls and minds of our children. Let’s start sowing good seeds within them,” he said.
