Former LSU wide receiver Kylen Lacy passed away at the age of 24, LSU officials confirmed to CBS Sports. There is no cause of death at this time.
Lacey spent two seasons at Louisiana Lafayette before transferring to LSU, the Tigers’ main receiver in 2024. He finished his career with 162 catches for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns.
“I am saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU football student-athlete Kylen Lacy,” an LSU spokesman told ESPN. “Our thoughts and prayers were influenced by his death of his family, loved ones, and his former teammates and coaches.”
When considered a potential pick in the NFL Draft, Lacey was arrested in January and charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless surgeries on the vehicle. The charges stem from a crash on December 17th in which the 78-year-old man was killed and two others injured.
“As Lacey had illegally passed another vehicle, the driver of the northbound pickup truck was suddenly decorated and turned right to avoid a head-on collision with an approaching Dodge,” a Louisiana State Police news release read. “Traveling behind the pickup was at Kia Cadenza in 2017. The driver turned left to avoid the approaching Dodge charger. Kia Cadenza took evasive action and collided head-on with the Southbound 2017 Kia Sorento to avoid the impact of Dodge.”
Following the accident, police said they ran around the scene where Lacey fell crashed, offering help or calling emergency services and fled.
