Bonn – The Bonn County Department of Gender, Children and Social Protection Coordinators has revealed that lack of mobility, stationery and operational funds seriously hinder the smooth operation and implementation of gender-related activities within the county.
Speaking to this paper during a visit to our office at Gbarnga, Madam Musu Mulbah explained that these challenges have affected outreach efforts, awareness campaigns, and timely responses to gender-based violence cases, especially in difficult-to-reach communities.
“Our work is important in promoting gender equality, protecting vulnerable groups, and dealing with gender-based violence,” highlighted Madame Malba.
She said the Bonn County Gender Office is tasked with local lead engagement, reporting cases of abuse and coordinating support services for survivors. However, the lack of resources continues to undermine these efforts.
Local civil society organisations and community leaders have expressed concern over the situation and are calling on government and international partners to increase support for gender programs in the region.
“As a society, we must ensure that the people who work to protect the rights of women and children are properly equipped and supported,” said the Gbarnga-based women’s rights advocate. Madame Malva has called on the Ministry of Gender, Children, Social Protection and Development Partners to prioritize the funding and logistics of the county’s Gender Bureau, emphasizing that meaningful advances in gender issues in Liberia depend on support.
