CAPITOL HILL – In his rebellious act against the Supreme Court decision, Rep. Richard Nagbe Kuhn set up a steel door at the entrance to the main chamber of commerce officially recognized by the court.
This latest move comes after the Supreme Court overridden Kuhn’s claims about the speech, declaring all actions taken by the majority bloc under his leadership, as well as the case of Vice-Chairman Thomas Farah. The court was J. The sitting, which Fonati Koffa is restrained without being chaired, found him to be present and not incompetent, but lacking legitimacy.
This is not Koon’s first attempt to block Koffa from accessing his main room and his office. Before the court’s decision on Koffa’s Bill of Information, Koon ordered all lock changes to Chambers, forced him to enter the speaker’s office, removed Koffa’s personal belongings, and set up himself from where he continued his operation.
Additionally, Koon ordered police officers and House staff to forcefully break into Yekeh Kolubah’s vehicle after Koluba parked in the designated space of the Capitol Chairperson.
The main room that Koon just sealed was a central point in the legal battle between Koffa and the majority bloc. In October 2024, the majority of blocks, encouraged by the numbers, moved to joint chambers. So Vice-Chair Farah, declaring Brock was free of speaker seats and hosting a parallel session in which Kuhn was selected as the new leader. Kuhn had previously been defeated by Kofa during the election of House leadership in January 2024.
With support from government agencies, the majority of blocks stripped off the cofa of security and other amenities, seized control of Liberia Central Bank and Commercial Bank House bank accounts, halted lawmakers loyal to Cofa, and controlled the national budget draft submitted by the enforcers.
Kofa and his allies challenged the majority bloc’s actions in the Supreme Court. In a groundbreaking decision, Sheaaaa Neen G. Yuo ruled that the actions of the majority of Bullocks are unconstitutional and argued that speakers’ authority cannot be removed when they do not exist, and procedures under such conditions are lacking justification.
Despite the court’s ruling, Kuhn and his supporters refused to follow. Kuhn dismissed the court’s decision as a “savage and bold violation” of the constitutional separation of power, arguing that his removal of Kofa was legally made under Article 49 of the Constitution and House Rule 9(a).

He further declared that the House would continue its operation under his leadership without recognizing the Supreme Court’s authority.
“The Supreme Court opinion or judgment will not be able to sweep or erase this resolution from the House chronicles,” Kuhn said rebelliously. “The Plenary Conference shall continue its operations of the House without respecting or respecting the opinions and judgments of the Supreme Court.”
The rebellion of the majority of blocs has encouraged fear of constitutional crisis. Several members, including Bonn County Representative James Kore, have suggested possible blast-each proceedings against Supreme Court judges, accusing them of being an overreach of justice.
The Supreme Court decision was widely expected to close in a months-long leadership standoff. However, due to Kuhn’s continued rebellion, uncertainty depends on the future of the house and the broader democratic stability of Liberia.
