Dr. Peter Matthew George, medical director of Esther & Jerelin Medical Center in Gunta, Nimba County, has been fired from his position as chairman of the Liberian Medical Dental Council (LMDC).
The termination involves revoking his medical license, effectively putting him into a former medical director at Vice President Jeremiah Korn’s medical center unprecedented practice of medicine and engages in medical-related activities within Liberia. This dramatic action was made due to fraudulent medical eligibility claims.
The Liberian Medical Dental Council (LMDC) announced its decision through a newsletter dated April 21, 2025.
“The Qualifications Committee officially notified my office that it cannot be demonstrated by the documents that provided the claim to be a physician. In particular, it is an absolute prerequisite for obtaining a license to practice medical care in Liberia, as it was unable to provide the Faculty’s medical certificate and internship certificate. The communication, entitled “Revoking a License to Practice Medicine in Liberia,” outlined the reasons for Dr. George’s firing and revoking his license.
According to the LMDC, Dr. George was asked to submit documents to the Credentials Committee on March 18, 2025 to reassess his license status.
LMDC records at the time showed that Dr. George had no credentials available, raising serious concerns about the validity of his medical qualifications.
Communication in particular states:
– License number 654 previously assigned to Dr. George was removed from the LMDC roster and immediately revoked.
・DR. George was prohibited from practicing medicine within Liberia and warned of potential legal persecution if he attempted to continue unfair medical activities.
The decision to revoke Dr. George’s license was approved by several senior members of the LMDC. Dr. Stephen Kennedy, Chairman’s Qualification Committee, Dr. Benetta Collins Andrews, Chairman’s Liberia Medical Dental Council (LMIX) and Augustus G. Kua, Registrar General Liberia Medical Dental Council (LMIX)
The case raised important questions regarding the integrity of health professionals and the effectiveness of qualification audits within the Liberian health care system. Fraudulent health qualifications not only undermine the quality of care provided to patients, but also erode trust in regulatory agencies such as LMDCs.
With this in mind, LMDC has announced a test run of the qualification audit. Current records show incomplete documents for some physicians, which require an audit.
Therefore, we require that all physicians and dentists enter their updated credentials into the file to match the current specialty rankings starting from Monday, May 5th and Monday, June 30th, 2025.
“The physicians and dentists will then be called in a specific order by the Credentials Committee to justify their claims regarding the document, which will begin on Monday, July 7, 2025,” the Communications states.
The LMDC has listed the Credentials Committee’s minimum documentation required to qualify for an internship certificate and undergraduate medical degree.
According to the LMDC, the movement is in line with the agency’s statutory mandate in accordance with the National Act of 2010, the Council’s Sub-Chapter B Function, and the Sub-Chapter B Function in Section 61.4.
The authorities also state that “the Council shall issue licenses to qualified physicians, surgeons, dentists and allied medical professionals within the Republic of Liberia who have graduated from a recognized and trustworthy medical institution.”
Meanwhile, following the conduct of Dr. George’s credential audit, he was officially requested to fill in his files with the first credentials he had qualify for the license over the years.
He was said to have given several presentations, but failed to present an undergraduate medical degree, a practical foundation for further professional advancement in the field of medical practice.
According to the LMDC, Dr. George presented a “Award Verification” as evidence that he later earned a maiden’s medical degree from the University of Hertfordshire, UK, and was subsequently rescheduled on Friday, April 18, 2025 for evaluation and possible certification of his award letter.
“As stated in your communication with Dr. Augustus G. Queer, Registrar General of LMDC, you have shown that you have provided that an assessment of your qualifications has been shown to have been shown to have been shown to have been made by the Committee based on the documents presented to you.”

LMDC further indicated that Hertfordshire University is planning to start a medical degree programme in 2026 where Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) (MBBS) will be offered in line with the context of UK medical education as opposed to the context of American medical education (MD).
The investigation further revealed that the opening of Hertfordshire School of Medicine at the University of Hertfordshire is currently pending approval from the UK General Medical Council.
LMDC revealed that another major conflict was that Dr. George’s “The Letter of Awards” showed that he had earned MD and graduate medical degrees over the course of four years.
LMDC pointed to an attachment notice from the University of Hertfordshire, which includes information regarding the pending launch of Hertfordshire Medical School in 2026. It also comes with your award letter with the above inconsistencies.
