MONTROVIA – The Liberian Football Association (LFA) has suspended Wogologizi FC head coach Jasper Benfelix and four referees of all LFA sanctions, withheld the results of an investigation into allegations of match manipulation.
Following the controversial message that allegedly been posted to the WhatsApp group, coach Benfelix who recently led Wologizi FC to the second division championship is being investigated. In the message he reportedly stated that he would do anything to help his former club, Nimbha Kwad.
Shortly after the post was circulated, Wologizi FC confiscated a key match with Nimba Kwado, allowing the latter to escape the relegation zone. The suspicious circumstances surrounding the confiscation raise concerns and Wologizi FC has also been featured in the LFA Disciplinary Committee for further review.
The LFA has not released full details, but the release from the association said the suspension is a precautionary measure and does not imply guilt.
“This decision is in line with the LFA’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the game,” the statement read. “We take these allegations very seriously and will take the necessary steps to ensure fairness and transparency remains at the heart of Liberian football.”
In related developments, the LFA has also temporarily suspended four judges – Koffa Doe, Thomas N. Konah, Julius Pongay, and Emmanuel Tarley are quick to work. The referee is currently investigating alleged involvement in the manipulation of the match and is prohibited from participating in LFA-related activities until the investigation is complete.
The LFA has repeatedly cooperated in full with the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee and has pledged to support the principles of integrity and accountability at all levels of the game.
