MONTROVIA – In a decisive election, the House of Representatives of Liberia’s 55th Assembly has elected Rep. Richard Nagbe Koon as his new speaker. Before his election, Kuhn served as chairman of the majority bloc, and was the main side of House issues for six months. However, the Supreme Court later declared his leadership and all actions taken under his small gavel unlawful.
Following the resignation of former speaker J. Fonati Koffa, Koon abandoned vice-chairman Thomas Fallah and replaced him on the floor. He was then nominated and elected as a speaker.
His victory not only solidifies his political grip in the House, but also legally confirms his position as a speaker and lining up the presidency.
Koon’s main challenge is to unite the deeply divided parliament. This has been undermined by months of criticism and legal paralysis.
