Liberia: VP Koung reveals Nimbha’s plot

MONTROVIA – Vice President Jeremiah Kupan Kung says he is heavily involved in the election of Nimba County senators.

Vice President Koung accuss the CDC of masterminding the plot of splitting and splitting Nimba’s votes in 2029 and denies people.

President Joseph Nyuma Boachey will celebrate the holiday in Nimbha tomorrow, Tuesday, with a vacant senator election created by the death of Senator Prince Jormie Johnson late last year.

Speaking on Radio Nimba over the weekend, VP Koung said on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) that Nimba’s senator elections were not merely elections, but rather a political plot that was properly arranged and calculated by the CDC to properly position and infiltrate Nimba’s political control and ultimately destroy the county’s election colleges and voices.

“Now I was able to sit in Monrovia and watch the election play, but the election is bigger than just a Senate election. There are a lot of people who want to fear this county politically, especially the strength of the vote. Only Madame Edith Gongrow Wei will be elected and if she wins, Darn will start to discuss splitting Nimbhas, as there are two Senators of Maan. VP Koung says.

He says the CDC believes that if Nimba County splits and the votes are split, the county will lose political and electoral power if the late Senator Y. Johnson, who kept the county and its people together.

However, he points out that the CDC knows that the MDR leader Samuel Kogar will win the Senate by-election, as he is only in the battle for Madame Edith Gongrow Wei and that MDR leader Samuel Kogar is from a Maan tribe like Edith.

Therefore, he planted two extra candidates to destroy the votes of the people of Kogal, Mark and Yealue’s Daan, allowing Gongrohe to win, ignite the chaos and inuniformity of the county, and split the votes with the strength and ability of the CDC of NIMBA 2029.

“These are political thinking, we all think. We all think as if we went to the same school. So, this is all going on to ensure that the people of Nimbha don’t go to Election United in 2029. To embrace President George M. Wee, he won in 2023.

Koung argues that if his insights are not ignored without paying attention, he is responsible for speaking to the people of Nimba about the CDC’s political plot that could undermine Nimba’s strength.

“If our people don’t listen, it’s up to them. If future children come and ask how Nimbha’s political control and election strengthening has decreased, or how we lost it, the records show that I came to Radio Nimbha and spoke to him but people didn’t listen,” he adds.

Reflecting historically, he recalls that from the formation of Nimba in 1964, the county launched a Senate representative for the traditional balance to avoid conflict and dishonesty.

We also recall that in 1985, the Vice President maintained a traditional balance, following negotiations with the DOE President by the Elders Council of Nimbha, during the administration of former President Samuel K. Do, as they had representatives of the same tribe.

He said he supported that traditional tribal balance in 1997 and 2005 during the administrations of former President Charles Taylor and Ellen Johnson Sirleef.

However, he says this was destroyed in 2011. Four months into the election, Madame Edith Gonglow Way decided to support someone, and was later convened and decided to challenge the Senate election.

“Madame Sirleef called Edith Gongrow Wey to her office and asked her to forget the election because the people of Maha could lose their seat, and promised to make her a pastor when she won the second time. However, Madame Gongrow Wey refused. She sat for the first time since 1964 and she did it for greed,” he insisted.

As for yet-female candidates, candidate Samuel Kogal said that due to her actions, some citizens in the US and local Ninba County have begun to choose to split the county on the ground that they have not balanced leadership.

“When Senator Thomas Gopey ended, I fought and won the election. We had Prince Y. Johnson and myself, of division and discussion, with myself. The elders came to visit me and said that it was not destroyed because my daughter didn’t listen. Culture is a tradition and tribal balance to maintain unity and peace,” he explains.

He says it’s time for the seats to return to the Dah people to have a balanced county representation. Therefore, as she is said to have done many years ago, Madame Gongrow Way should not be given space before she destroys tradition.

“So Nimbha needs a senator who doesn’t work and learn. So, Madame Gongrow Wei is qualified like others, but the Senate is not a place to learn at this point. If Nimbha allows it to happen, he will miss a lot. Some others will retreat, but they didn’t listen,” lamented the vice president.

Candidate Edith Gonglow Way is facing six male candidates, including VP Koung and current representative Samuel Kogar, the only woman in the race and the choice of the ruling and unified party. She has the blessings of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleef and former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor and a group of women here. Edited by Jonathan Brown
