Reuben Amorim argues that Rasmus Hojlund is not only responsible for scoring for Manchester United, but also urges the rest of the team to take responsibility for the goal.
Højlund was found guilty of missing a golden chance in the second half of the wolves, who won 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
For the Danish striker, he’s been one goal in almost 30 hours of football. He only found the net three times in the Premier League throughout the season.
“If you look at the game, I think there are a few players who miss big opportunities, not just Rasmus,” Amorim said.
“Of course, Rasmus is about scoring goals because he’s a striker, but that’s about the team. I’ve already said that. Our team should score more goals.
Pressure on Fujilund has increased after Joshua Zirkusy was ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
Amorim was asked if the 22-year-old should be taken from the team so that he can mentally recover from his poor form of running.
However, the Portuguese coach suggested he would continue to choose Højlund in the hopes that the goal might start a run of confidence.
“The only way I know is to work on him and show him the video,” Amorim said.
“Like you said, he needs to score a goal and if he’s out he won’t score [of the team] So I try to manage it during the game. He needs to score, it’s all like the needs of the striker. ”
United are expected to try and solve their scoring problems by signing new strikers in the summer. They are linked to Liam Delap, Victor Osimhen, Ollie Waktins and others. But Amorim believes this issue will be implemented more deeply.
“It’s about the team,” he said.
“Of course, we know what we need for this team, but the people we play with also have midfielders playing in front of at least three guys in front of them and scoring goals.
“Every team needs to gain more goals and have opportunities with midfielders and strikers because if you don’t score goals in this league, you won’t be able to win the game.”
