Bruno Fernandez fought back at Ir Jim Ratcliffe’s suggestion that some Manchester United players were overpaid by telling the British billionaire that the club “agree to put a contract.”
Fernandez was praised by Ratcliffe in an interview this week, with the 72-year-old describing the United captain as a “great footballer.”
However, other team members were branded as “not enough” and “overpayment.”
Fernandez defended his teammates after scoring a hat-trick to help Real Sociedad score a 5-2 total in the Europa League on Thursday.
“It’s obviously not a good thing to hear something specific,” Fernandez said. “I don’t think players like hearing criticism or things that are being spoken to you, or that you’re not enough or overpaying.

“Everyone has their own contracts. The club agrees to make a contract when they come here or when they make a new contract, etc. It’s about proving that it’s important to the club.”
Fernandez was praised by Ratcliffe this week, but the Portuguese midfielder is the end of a fierce criticism from Roy Keene.
The former United captain said Fernandez was “not a fighter,” but told the 30-year-old “the talent is not enough.”
Fernandez was extremely important for Reuben Amorim’s team in a poorly-shaped run, scoring six goals in his final six games. He is also directly involved in 11 of United’s final 13 goals.
However, given the opportunity to deal with Keene after his victory over Real Sociedad, Fernandez argued that all he could do is try to change Keene’s views with his performance.
“Everyone has an opinion, so that’s fine,” he said. “I can’t change people’s minds. All I have to do is go on the pitch and try to do everything I can for the club.
