The St. Louis Cardinals placed shortstop machine winn on their list of injured Saturday after finishing Friday’s contest with a convulsion. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals activated Illinois infielder Nolan Gorman. Gorman has been on the sidelines with nervous hamstrings since April 1st.
Wynn, 23, left Friday’s contest with the Philadelphia Phillies in two innings. His exit was forced to be creative with defensive integrity to the Cardinals. The regular two-base hand Brendan Donovan was in the lineup as a designated batter. Cardinals didn’t want to sacrifice the DH slot right away, so instead slipped Thomas Suggese (who got a nod at the keystone) backfilled the open slot on the catcher pedro page on the second base – Page had no experience with keystones that he could talk about.
Later in the game, the Cardinals gave up on the DH spot and moved Donovan to a defensive position. They then secure a 2-0 victory in the night.
Winn’s first 13 games hit .222/.314/.289 (75 OPS+) on home runs. These marks are well below the ones he posted last season (.267/.314/.416). He wanted him to return to action without an IL stint.
“It’s probably going to take a few days, but that’s fine, but I’ve already told them I’m not going to go to IL,” he told MLB after Friday’s match. “It was similar [to the spasms of 2024]. Last year actually got a bit worse. After my muscles spike, I just have to get over this. They gave me some things tonight and I’m going to see how it feels [Saturday]. I’m probably out [Saturday]But hopefully, you’ll feel better in a few days. ”
Gorman, 24, got 4 with 8 in two games and needed deactivation. He resumes his attempts to improve last season. He posted a disappointing 86 OPS+ in 107 games. According to the baseball reference, in three or more big league seasons, Gorman hit .224/.303/.440 (104 OPS+), surpassing the exchange for 61 home runs.
Cardinals are expected to use Donovan and Suggese in short stops during Wynn’s absence, and Gorman sees the action on 2 base.
St. Louis will be taking part in Saturday’s contest with a 6-7 record in the young season.
