Mauritius is set to deepen educational collaboration with the UK (UK) as part of its efforts to enhance curriculum development, assessment frameworks and HR training. This was at the heart of the discussion yesterday at the MITD House in Phoenix in a polite call to Dr. Mahend Hungapersad, Minister of Mahend Human Resources Charlotte Anik Rachel Pierre and Mr. Mauritius.
Ms Pierre was accompanied by Deep Tea Bangaligo Healam, country director of the Bureau of Business and Trade.
In a statement following the meeting, Minister Ganga Persad said he appreciated the support Mauritius received in the UK’s education sector. He said a delegation from Mauritius will travel to Cambridge early next month and will meet officials from the Cambridge International Examinations with support from the UK. The aim is to review the curriculum and evaluation framework for selected subjects in Mauritius and to enhance existing collaborations with Cambridge University.
Dr Gungapersad also spoke about the importance of observing best practices and exploring opportunities to visit UK secondary schools to examine aspects of HR development, particularly skills and vocational training.
On her part, the British High Commissioner reaffirmed the strong UK educational relationship with Mauritius by highlighting that Mauritius students perform very well in the UK’s higher education institutions. She reassured that the UK is committed to deepening this relationship and welcomed Minister Ganga Persad’s aggressive approach to expanding cooperation.
Ms Pierre also expressed her enthusiasm to work with the Minister to implement his vision, particularly in the secondary education sector, as she explores new paths for Mauritius and the UK to work together.
