“We’ll say it’s better to make sure he can maintain his second position, as he benefits from hindsight and considering the corner one-two situation, Rand lifts up and the car benefits from hindsight, he’s very fast and he certainly passed McClee like McClee, so he’s very fast.”
“So, like every situation in the race, you have to approach it with the mindset of reviewing where the opportunity lies, and in this case, I think Rand might have been a little more patient.”
Norris was even more late in the race Verstappen as he had to get back on track and pass him on Turn 11 and return the spot before regaining the next lap.
Stella said his two drivers Verstappen’s approach to racing was no different.
“Both drivers were approaching the overtaking in a way that had not disappeared a few centimeters away at corner 11. He would have completed the overtaking in a similar time.
“A big loss of time came because we had to return the position, so I don’t think there’s any difference between both drivers in terms of overtaking the operation, accuracy and determination.”
Once he passed Verstappen, Norris closed Piastri on his second stint, but ran out of time to close the gap.
