Iran executes a man accused of spying for Israel

An Iranian man convicted of espionage and intelligence cooperation with Israel was executed on Wednesday, Iranian state media reported.

Encountered in a decades-long shadow war with Iran, Iran has killed many individuals who have ties with Israel’s Mossad Intelligence Agency and accused them of promoting the latter’s activities within the country.

According to Iran’s judicial media outlet Mizan, the defendant, who was identified as Mosenlangarnesin, was accused of being involved in several cases, including the death of a Revolutionary Guard Colonel in 2022.

“Two years as a spy (…) he was responsible for important actions, including supporting terrorist operations and being at the scene of the assassination of Sayadkodai,” state media said. The defendant also said he provided operational support for attacks on Isfahan’s industrial centre, which belongs to the Ministry of Defense.

State media reports said Langarnesin had confessed the charges. Reuters could not contact a representative for comment.

Earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakich accused Israel of trying to derail Israel’s nuclear association, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the idea of limiting the enrichment of uranium in Tehran through a contract and promoting the complete dismantling of nuclear infrastructure.

The US will present evidence at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague at 10am local time (9am BST).

Today is the third in a five-day lawsuit in The Hague, and could prove important for the future within Israeli world groups. The UN Supreme Court will listen from dozens of countries and organizations to prepare advisory opinions on Israel’s humanitarian duties to Palestinians more than 50 days after the total blockade of aid entering Gaza.

The United Nations first attended the court on Monday, followed by a Palestinian representative. In total, 40 states and four international organizations will participate.

On Tuesday, Israeli solid critic South Africa presented the argument. At a hearing in another court case last year, the state accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The evidence today comes from Israel’s allies.

The court will probably take several months to control. Experts say the decision, while not legally binding, could have a deep impact on international law, international aid to Israel and public opinion.
