Liverpool head coach Arne Slott admitted that the club has made a lot of “efforts” to extend Mohamed Sarah’s contract, but for a while he is confident that negotiations are heading in the “right direction.”
Sarah was scheduled to close her contract this summer, but Liverpool confirmed on Friday that Egypt International had extended her stay in Merseyside until the summer of 2027.
Sports Director Richard Hughes oversaw negotiations with Sarah’s agent, Ramie Abbas Issa, and discussions have been going on for months.
“Of course I’m happy,” Slot said. “He has been on display at this club for many years and how much value he has for the team and the club. [against West Ham United] How important was he to us to the whole season?
“Reliable? I think so for fans. Not surprising. I knew a bit more about how the contract situation progressed throughout the season.

“It was a pleasant surprise to the fans. I knew something a little longer was heading in the right direction.
“It’s a huge tribute to Richard Hughes because Moe Sarah can go to any club he wants as a free agent. But he stays with our club, and that’s also a tribute to Richard.”
Slot added about his role in keeping Sarah at Liverpool: “I’m part of that process, but I don’t think I deserve a compliment. First of all, I want the MO choice and the choice of his agent.
“Effort mainly means money! Not just money, but it’s not just about money. This season is not a good season either. I want to create a very good season next season as well. I think Mo is sure there will be a pretty good chance.”
