JUBA – President Yoweri Museveni has arrived in Juba, the latest highly ranked official who enters a country facing chaos after the arrest of South Sudan’s Vice President Riek Machar.
Last week, Raila Odinga was sent to Juba by Kenya’s EAC principal William Ruto, but the African Union delegation is now trying to mediate war factions.
African Union mediators arrived Wednesday for consultations aimed at avoiding a new civil war after Vice President Makar was put under house arrest last week. Kiel accused him of starting anxiousness aimed at abdicated by the longtime rival who led the rebels during the 2013-18 war.
This was Museveni’s first visit to South Sudan in three years, where he dispatched UPDF troops to back up Kiir.
He last visited in August 2022 during his graduation of his first batch of over 20,000 Necessary Unified Forces (NUFs).

Arrived early today, Museveni was accepted by his host President Salva Kier Mayaldit at Juba International Airport.
