Police in the Oshikoto area and members of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Tourism have discovered a boy (12) who went missing for five days in Etosha National Park.
The boy reportedly disappeared from the Ekume area on February 23 and was found on February 28th.
According to deputy regional commander deputy commissioner James Nandapo, the boy was found around 05h00.
Nandapo says Salom Shangra and his grandmother, along with others, were busy harvesting mopanee insects.
“After a while he was called, but he didn’t respond and my grandmother thought he had gone to another person,” he says.
When they realized that Shangra was not among them, they began searching for him where he was last seen, but did not find him.
“They started asking the people there questions, but no one found him, and they continued searching until sunset,” Nandapo says.
They then notified the department officials along with the park’s fence, and they too had police officers deployed to the park to assist in the search, but to no avail.
Shangra was discovered on February 28th and was reunited with her family.
He survived from the water alone and hid in the bushes, Nandapo says.
