Mayor of Luderitz Phil Balhao says he was removed from all programs for this year’s event, directed by Alex Garwanab, chairman of the Crayfish Festival Board of Directors.
Facebook’s Balhao said, “The Luderitz Town Council as the administrator of the Crayfish Festival is stuck in the ongoing disputes over the effectiveness of the previous festival and financial accounting.”
“This fiduciary duties and due diligence are the responsibility of the Council, which resulted in withholding the transfer of funds to the Council until these pending issues have been resolved and overcome in a clear manner,” he added.
Balhao said in a statement that three councillors were allegedly being blackmailed by legal action.
“The council is seeking legal advice, which further strengthens the council’s resolve to address these long-standing issues,” says Balhao.
“This ongoing conflict means that “the board reserves the right to ban me from this year’s program.” ”
Garwanab told Namibian that he must first consult with the board before commenting on the matter.
“There are no comments at this time.”
