President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah officially released the newly appointed pastor of agriculture, fishing, water and land reform in his duties after being arrested on Saturday.
Deputy Police Chief Kauna Shikwambi told media on Saturday that Hengali was arrested after attempting to become a bribe for a young woman who was raped in a case that called for resignation from political analysts in the past few weeks.
Hengali told Namibian on Saturday morning that he had resigned from his position after the incident.
On Sunday, President Nandi Nudaitwa issued a statement confirming that Hengari is no longer of any use to the Minister.
“President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has eased his duties as Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform. The end of the tenure effect from Wednesday, April 23rd, when Hengali resigned, reads a statement from the President.
The president also announced that Hengari had also withdrawn from the Parliament.
Meanwhile, an inspector with Joseph Sicongo police says Hengari is expected to be charged on Sunday.
“He hasn’t been charged yet, but he could be charged today (Sunday),” he says.
