Miss World Namibia 2025 Selma Camanya unveiled her national outfit over the weekend at an emotional send-off ceremony.
This is the last of her rehearsals in Namibia before taking off to Hyderabad, India, and will represent Namibia at the 72nd Miss World Pageant from May 7th to 31st.
Her national outfit, “Omano Akarunga,” means “the gift of God,” and was designed by local designer Nami Paulus.
Inspired by the Namibian sun, this outfit captures the sun’s journey from dawn to dusk, symbolizing hope, transformation and divine strength.
The design combines the cultural elements of Himba and Oshiwambo with visual storytelling that unfolds through movement.
Marcokutzi, national director of Miss NGO Namibia, says the costume has golden beads on top, inspired by traditional Himba decorations.
“The outfit evolves from brightly coloured orange and gold to rich purple, red and dark brown – to warm sunsets in Namibia,” says Coetzee.
“This fashion is an ode of memory to Namibia, its people, and the eternal stories carried by the sun. It is the claim of heritage and dance at dawn through dusk.”
Kamanya, who left for India on Sunday, expressed her excitement and gratitude.
“The preparation for the pageant really worked. I got incredible support from my family, friends and many Namibians,” she said.
“It’s been an emotional and powerful journey so far.”
She also vowed to keep her supporters up to date throughout the competition.
“I will take you through my experiences and moments in India on a social media platform. I want Namibians to be involved in this process with me. We are here with this.”
With her national outfit, calm and patriotic attitude, Camanya says she intends to make the mark on a global platform.
Her presence emphasizes not only the culture of Namibian, but also the culture of the country’s young designers.
Walking to the stage of Miss World, Camanya represents the hope of the nation and the glow of the Namibian sun.
