Given her importance as England’s best batsman and one of the most experienced bowlers, there were some concerns about Sciver-Brunt’s workload with the captain, but Edwards said he is confident he can ease some of the pressure and focus on issues on the field.
Another critique of England’s setup – and another aspect that Edwards vowed to fix was the apparent lack of a plan for succession in leadership roles, taking into account the longevity of Knight’s tenure.
“We create leadership groups, and it can vary from series to series and format, but that’s what we really buy.
“We need to make sure we plan our future, give players experience and give voice.”
Edwards also confirmed that Knight is not part of its leadership group and stated her desire to focus on the former skipper enjoying the game and batting again.
Unlike before, England faced criticism and scrutiny from the ashes surrender.
Edwards admitted that the team changed its approach to social media and “seeing our professional behavior,” but added that they already noticed the change in their role in a short time.
“It’s different and should be, but it doesn’t mean that it’s right or wrong. That’s exactly how Nat and I do it,” she said.
“The team has become accustomed to certain ways of doing things, but they have been great and have been very embraced with everything we have been talking about.
“We hope to move in the right direction soon.”
