Imagine putting the pedal on metal for those who have a share of speeding tickets. – Speed limit.
A new measure being considered in New York City could actually crack down on repeat speeders using Accelerator-Restrictor technology…and particularly focuses on speed players cited in surface streets and school zones. The city could require accelerator restriction devices to slow down chronic speakers unwillingly.
The device is part of a pilot program known as Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA). Some people use GPS data and maps to determine the correct speed depending on the vehicle’s position. Some makers and models already have this technology installed a year ago. Vehicles that do not currently have an ISA will need to change to add technology.

If approved, New York will join Georgia and Washington DC’s Virginia and Washington DC, and will be forced to install ISA devices to curb their ability to accelerate beyond legal restrictions by enacting new state laws requiring convicted speeders.
It’s a controversial issue in New York…and on Monday, TMZ was in the Chambers as the New York City Council had a cheerful debate over whether the Big Apple would support these efforts.

Leading the rates for NYC’s accelerator remix is a group called Transportation Alternatives. TA’s Alexa Sledge reports that TMZ has identified 10 big apple drivers known as “Super Speeders.” These are the drivers with the most frequent speed camera violations in the school zone.
The toppings on the list are the owner of an Audi A6 who had a 563 speeding ticket last year. The group also released a map showing the most speeding tickets in Brooklyn neighborhoods. In Manhattan, another driver won 177 tickets.
According to Sledge, simply suspending people’s licenses for driving doesn’t work. It shows that 75% of people with a license suspended are still driving, creating a situation behind the wheel where carelessness can kill someone.
Monday’s lawsuit in the New York City Council was a debate over whether to support the state legislature… The council will formally vote at a later date on whether to adopt a resolution in favour of this.
