EDMONTON, Alberta – NHL official Chris Rooney returned to the ice Tuesday night for Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals.
It was his veteran referee meeting final debut, and was a Rooney’s worthy return given the circumstances. Rooney’s first game took a high stick to the face on May 17th in Game 7 of the second round series of the Eastern Conference between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers.
Rooney was injured 13 seconds later in the second season when Panthers defender Nico Miccola caught him at the end of his stick while fighting for the puck. Rooney fell on the ice and was sent to trainers for both teams.
