It’s a small batch of Sunday games, but mostly playoff effects.
New York Islanders are holding the Washington Capitals (12:30pm, TNT) and while Alex Ovechkin is about to leave the scoresheet, the Isles are about to return to the wildcard race. They start a 7-point play for the Montreal Canadiens for the final spot. The Canadians visit Nashville predators (7pm, ESPN+).
Currently, the final spot in the West is being held by the Minnesota Wild. The Minnesota Wild is welcoming Dallas Star to Twin City (3pm ET, TNT). Minnesota is four points ahead of Idol Calgary’s Flame and six points ahead of the Vancouver Canucks, which hosts the Vegas Golden Knights (10pm ET, ESPN). Dallas will start seeding the entire West top with four points for the Winnipeg Jets.
Perhaps the biggest game of the day features a Columbus Blue Jacket heading towards the Canadian capital to Ottawa Senator (5pm, ESPN+). The Blue Jacket is six points behind the Canadiens, and the Senator is beginning to enjoy the third seeded Florida Panthers. They start four points ahead. Speaking of cats, they visit the Detroit Red Wings (5:30pm, TNT). He’s six points behind the Canadians in WC2.
For those interested in draft lottery positioning, the Boston Bruins visit the Buffalo Sabres (6pm ET, ESPN+) and the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Chicago Blackhawks (6pm ET, ESPN+).
Once the regular season ends on April 17th, you can track it all on the NHL Playoff Watch. As you cross the final stretch, we will provide details of all the playoff races along with teams jogging for a position in the 2025 NHL Draft Lottery.

The NHL uses draft lottery to determine the order of the first round, so teams finishing at the last place are not guaranteed to choose No. 1. As of 2021, teams can raise up to 10 spots if they win the lottery, so only 11 teams are eligible for the first place pick. Click here for more information about the process. Matthew Schaefer, the defender of OHL’s Erie Otters, is number one on the draft board.
