He returned to absorb the admiration, singing “Blue Moon” and chanting “City, City, City.”
Former city midfielder Izzy Christiansen described it as Cushing’s “tactical masterclass,” but he argued that the foundation was laid, and that’s about belief.
“For me, it was about being able to compete with the top team. To win a trophy, you have to beat the best,” Cushing said.
“We’re a threat at every stage of the game and need to have that presence. That’s how you can win tight and important games.”
City imposed itself early and held back ownership, but the momentum swayed throughout the tense first half.

“We’re so happy to have won because Champions League night at Joie Stadium has been such a special one so far,” Miedema told BBC Sport.
“You always want to start, but I’m not in a position to play four lots in a 90-minute continuous period. We need to be smart.
“[Cushing] I really want to move forward and take risks. Sometimes we did it really well. Hopefully, you can raise it to another level on Sunday and Thursday. ”
