Nigeria: “Don’t spray money, use baskets, bowls” – e-money advice EFCC release

“Bless you responsibly and avoid fines. Respect your currency. If you have to give money at a party, check it out…”

Nigerian businessman and socialite Emeka “e-money’okonkwo warns Nigerians after spraying currency at social events.

The Premium Times reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested electronic money on Monday at his residence in Omore, Lagos on suspicion of currency breakdown.

He was later released by the anti-grafts department on Tuesday after questioning at the headquarters of the committee in Abuja.

Three days after celebrating his release, the 44-year-old stressed that spraying Naira or other currencies of the parties would amount to currency abuse and would be punished under the law.

In a statement on his Instagram page Thursday, the businessman said he disapproved of the EFCC’s spraying on social functions.

E-Money states, “Warning! The EFCC reminds us that spraying naira (or currency there) at parties or events is against the law. Celebrate responsibly and avoid fines. Respect your currency.

“The EFCC advises this. Ignorance is no excuse. As it is a law of land, be aware of the rules and adhere to them. We will not be responsible for the abuse of Naira and will not spray foreign currency.”

background

The newspaper has gathered that Nigerians are not the only businessmen who warned against Naira abuse after interrogation by anti-graft agencies.

Cubana’s chief priest, popular Instagram celebrity Pascal Okechukwu, had previously criticised E-Money’s arrest, but urged Nigerians to refrain from spraying Naira after their encounter with the EFCC.

A Cuban priest, arrested in court on suspicion of naira abuse, issued a warning at a traditional wedding of singer David and Chio Maloland in June 2024.

E-Money’s arrest led him to join remanded musicians Terry Alexander Ejeh, Terry Apala, Crossdresser Bobrisky, former beauty queen Simi Gold, and Kano-based Tiktoker Murja Kunya.
