Witness Jegede Taiwano said the first explosion occurred around noon, killing a scavenger who was trying to break the metal that looked like a rocket.
The suspected twin explosion from a hand rena bullet killed one and injured about eight people at a cleaning site on Taiwan Street in Idiaraba community in Mushin Local Government Area, Lagos State.
Multiple community sources told the Premium Times that the incident happened Thursday.
Witness Jegede Taiwano said the first explosion occurred around noon, killing a scavenger who was trying to break the metal that looked like a rocket. One of them was injured at the time.
“They must have brought rockets from somewhere,” he said.
The second explosion occurred around 5pm, resident Shehu Idris added that the incident destroyed a home near the cleaning site.
Idris said many people were injured during the second explosion. He estimated the number of eight injured victims.
He added that the injured victim was taken to a hospital in the area.
In the incident video circulating online, two items were seen on cleaning sites that suspected the rocket was a propelled hand-rena bomb.
Police operatives and firefighters were deployed on the scene, exerting community tensions.
Benjamin Hudain, a spokesman for the state Lagos Police Command, did not answer the phone and SMS was sent to him about the incident.
