Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, and also suspended his deputy, ngozi Odu and all elected MPs in the state, Governor Siminali Fabara.
Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice admiral and former chief of the Navy Chiefs of Staff, took over as the sole administrator of the Rivers state.
Mr Yvas arrived in the state’s capital, Port Harcourt, around 11:25am on Thursday, and authorities were confirmed by the Premium Times.
His arrival came about the same time that Nigerian House of Representatives approved the declaration of a state of emergency in the South-South state.
The Senate later approved emergency rules with minor changes following the lawsuit.
The Premium Times previously reported that President Bora Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the South-South Province on Tuesday.
Tinubu also suspended Governor Fabara, Lieutenant Governor Nugoji Odu and all members of the House of Representatives for the first six months.
As a result, the president appointed Mr. Ibas as the state’s sole administrator.
He cited state “unsetting incidents” over the past 24 hours, including the explosion and destruction of oil pipelines related to the state’s political crisis as the basis for emergency regulations.
Arrival, take over
Mr Ibas was accompanied by Rivers State Police Commissioner Orgbenga Adepoj and police assistant inspector Zone 16.
The only manager was carried out immediately around the Rivers State Government home by suspended state government officials.
He then held closure meetings with senior security guards, federal delegations and some state authorities.
Details of the closed door meeting were unknown as of press time.
